So, to answer the question of who am I more directly, let's try this…
I am a Graduate of Forest Brook Senior High School in Houston, Texas. Home of the Fighting Jaguars, Class of 1979.
I am the proud father of two really outstanding full-grown humans, both doing great things. Amazing youngsters. I blame their Mother.
I am an Honorably Discharged U.S. Navy Veteran having served 6 Years in the Pacific Fleet.
In fact, my military service is how I ended up in what I claim as my adopted hometown, San Diego, California. There's not a better place to live on God's Green Earth, and I've lived in and enjoyed a few.
Over the course of my life so far, those places have included spending a fair amount of time in Atsugi, Japan, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Houston, and Dallas. Phoenix, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Sydney, Australia, just to name a few. Ahh… that laptop lifestyle. Freedom!
Let's see, what else…
Oh, I've been a geek since before it was cool, like it is now. I started surfing what was the internet way back in the early days of DOS, using dial-up CompuServe. Yep, DOS and dial-up CompuServe! No idea right? Google em.
I've been bumping around on this here internet just about since its inception.
As of this writing, it's been well over a decade since I fumbled and stumbled my way into making what I consider a nice full-time living exclusively online. Having built, bought, and sold a few dozen online businesses over the years. Honestly, I've made and lost a couple of fortunes on various projects over the last 20+ years and have now settled on a couple that keep me engaged and out of mischief. (Well, for the most part, anyway.)
When it comes to real life as well as the internet, I feel like I've been there and done that. A bit like Eminem, I've been “chewed up, spit out, and booed off stage” more than a few times. Through the process of all this experimenting with life, I've learned one thing that is absolutely true, and that is maintaining a winning attitude regardless of the scoreboard is “The Game.”
With the right attitude, it's all survivable. Darkness fades into light. Loud loneliness eventually gives way to peaceful quiet, and sadness over past mistakes and transgressions become burning desires to EARN undeserving second, third, and fourth chances.
Which is where I am today. Doing everything I can to pay off some of this debt I've accumulated with the Universe. Trying to do a little good each day.
To be sure, the free and single laptop lifestyle I've been fortunate enough to enjoy these last several years has also come with a fair amount of heartache, the details of which I will not be recounting. That is in large part because frankly, I make it a point to NOT retain certain details. That's a habit of mine… dump the negative as quickly as possible and keep things moving. Extract the lessons that are there to be extracted in each moment, stow them away and dump the rest. Besides, I have an obligation to protect the innocent. (…and the not so innocent.)
So yeah, there you have it. The thumbnail view. Nothing too complicated. That's Clyde Lee Dennis.
