Audio On Proven Tips For Overcoming the Fear of Rejection Contributed by Our Friends at TEDx

In today's episode of 7 Good Minutes, in our Wellness Wednesday segment, we learn 3 Proven Tips For Overcoming the Fear of Rejection.

We've all been rejected at some point in our lives. Whether it was being passed over for a promotion, not being asked out on a second date, or being told your work wasn't good enough, rejection hurts. But why does it hurt so much? And how can we overcome our fear of rejection?

The answer to both of those questions has to do with our brain chemistry. You see, when we experience rejection, our brain responds in a very similar way to when we experience physical pain. That's because rejection activates the same area of the brain as physical pain does.

In other words, when we're rejected, we literally feel the pain.

So, how can we overcome this fear of rejection that's holding us back from achieving our goals? Here are three tips:

First, remember that everyone experiences rejection. You're not alone in feeling the pain of being rejected.

Second, don't take rejection personally. Just because someone doesn't want to date you or hire you doesn't mean there's something wrong with you as a person.

Finally, use rejection as motivation to keep going. Every “no” brings you closer to a “yes.”

Rejection is a part of life but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

The next time you find yourself feeling down after being rejected, remember these three tips: everyone experiences rejection; don't take it personally, and use it as motivation to keep going.
