Audio On Making Changes in Your Life that Will Last Contributed by Our Friends at Action Begins Success
In today's episode of 7 Good Minutes, we learn three Steps to Making Changes in Your Life that Will Last.
You know that feeling when you're stuck in a rut, going through the motions day in and day out? Maybe you don't hate your life, but you're not exactly living either. If that sounds like you, it might be time for a change.
But how do you go about making a change in your life? Read on to find out.
Evaluate What Is and Isn't Working
The first step to making a change in your life is to take a good, hard look at what is and isn't working. Write down a list of things that make you happy and another list of things that make you unhappy. Once you have a handle on what needs to change, you can begin to take steps to make those changes.
Set Small, Achievable Goals
If you're unhappy with your current situation, it can be tempting to try to make sweeping changes all at once. Unfortunately, this approach rarely works. More often than not, people who try to make too many changes at once end up feeling overwhelmed and quickly revert back to their old ways.
Instead of trying to change everything at once, set small, achievable goals. For example, if you want to get in shape, don't commit to going to the gym seven days a week. Start with three days a week and gradually increase from there.
Or if you want to eat healthier, slowly start incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet instead of eliminating all of your favorite foods cold turkey. Baby steps may not seem like much, but they'll get you where you want to be eventually.
Find a Support System
Making lasting changes in your life is difficult but it's a lot easier when you have someone in your corner cheering you on. Whether it's a spouse, friend, family member, or coworker, find someone who will support your efforts to make positive changes in your life.
This person can serve as a sounding board when you need help staying on track or simply need someone to vent to when things get tough. Having someone in your corner will make the journey toward change much easier and more enjoyable than going it alone.
Making changes in your life can be daunting but it doesn't have to be! By taking stock of what isn't working in your life and setting small, achievable goals, you can slowly but surely transform yourself into the person you've always wanted to be.
Plus, having a supportive friend or family member cheering you on makes the process much more fun than going it alone! So what are you waiting for? It's time for a change!
