Audio On Why It's So Important to Know Your Why Contributed by Our Friends at Motiversity

In today's episode of 7 Good Minutes, in our Mindful Monday segment, we are reminded Why It's So Important to Know Your Why.

We all have dreams and goals. But how many of us actually achieve them? According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton, only 8% of people achieve their New Year's resolutions. So, what separates the successful 8% from the other 92%? The answer may surprise you.

It's not intelligence or motivation or natural talent. It turns out, the single most important factor in achieving your goals is having a strong why. In other words, you need to be clear about why you want to achieve something before you can actually achieve it.

Think about it like this: let's say your goal is to lose 20 pounds. That's all well and good, but it's not going to be very motivating when those early days of dieting and exercise are tough.

However, if you reframe your goal and make it about improving your health so that you can be around for your children's wedding days, then all of a sudden, losing 20 pounds becomes a lot more important.

The Power of Why

According to the author and motivational speaker Simon Sinek, humans are hardwired to connect with others on an emotional level. We care about stories and we're drawn to the people who can tell them in a way that resonates with us.

This is why sharing your why is so powerful because it allows you to connect with others on a deeper level and tap into their emotions.

When you're clear about your why it gives you the courage to keep going when things get tough. It allows you to brush off failures and keep moving forward because you know that what you're doing is bigger than yourself.

It also allows you to inspire others to take action because they can see that what you're doing is authentic and genuine.

Knowing your why is essential if you want to achieve big goals in life. But it's not enough to simply have a why you need to be able to share it with others in a way that resonates with them on an emotional level.

When you're clear about your why and can communicate it effectively, it gives you the courage to keep going when things get tough and inspires others to take action as well.
