Audio On The Science Of Why Giving Is Better Than Receiving Contributed by Our Friends at Habits of the Wealthy
In today's episode of 7 Good Minutes, we listen in as Jim Rohn explains The Science Of Why Giving Is Better Than Receiving.
Conventional wisdom tells us that it's better to give than to receive. But why? Why is giving so much better than receiving?
We're hardwired for generosity. From an evolutionary standpoint, it's beneficial for us to be generous because it helps ensure the survival of our species. When we give to others, they are more likely to reciprocate, which creates a spiral of generosity that benefits everyone involved.
But there's more to it than that. Generosity also makes us happier and healthier. When we give, our brains release dopamine, which is a feel-good chemical that improves our mood and makes us feel more connected to others. In fact, research has shown that giving can actually increase our lifespan and lower our blood pressure!
The act of giving also has positive effects on our relationships. When we give to others, they feel appreciated and valued, which strengthens our bonds with them. And when we receive gifts from others, it makes us feel loved and cared for.
Giving also improves our self-esteem and sense of purpose. When we help others, we feel like we're making a difference in the world and that our lives have meaning. By contrast, when we focus only on ourselves, we can end up feeling selfish and empty.
So next time you're considering whether to give or receive, remember that the act of giving is good for you and everyone else involved!
Remember, the next time you have a choice between giving and receiving, that giving is not only the morally correct choice but also the scientifically proven one! Give generously and often, and you'll be surprised at how much better you'll feel as a result.
